Solidarity

Twin State Derby stands in solidarity with our trans members and the trans community. Trans women are women; trans men are men; non-binary, genderfluid, gender expansive, and intersex people are non-binary, genderfluid, gender expansive, and intersex people. An executive order recognizing only “female” and “male” sexes is a false framing which disregards known science and the lived experiences of hundreds of millions of people worldwide. This false frame causes real hardship. It does real harm.
Twin State Derby will act to mitigate these intentional harms in every way which is consistent with our mission and purpose. We remain committed to providing an athletic and inclusive environment that empowers all to discover and pursue their love of roller derby. One small league may seem insignificant in the face of these attacks on an entire population, but there is power in standing together and in holding space where our trans friends and family can safely exist and participate fully as themselves.
There will be new challenges to navigate together, such as determining what travel is safe and accessible. There is work to be done, individually and collectively, to stand up against these attacks.
Trans people belong in our communities, trans people belong in roller derby, and trans people belong in Twin State Derby.
